Martin Greene has been involved in the angling Industry for over 25 years and is currently Commercial Manager of Daiwa Sports UK having been with the company now for 18 years.

A keen angler from an early age, Martin was introduced to fishing by his grandfather, a once-classic form of entry into our pastime that many will identify with.

Through his guidance, Martin quickly fell in love with the competitive side of the sport and, by the age of 15, he was a member of the England Youth team, competing at two World Championships and captaining the Milton Keynes junior side to National Champions.

It is this experience that bodes well for the new ATA board and Martin is one of the most active attendees of monthly workgroup and quarterly board meetings, where his passion for recruitment, especially at junior level, is plain for all to see.

Taking a break from fishing, Martin studied for and graduated with an HND in Product Design. After graduating, he embarked on a management role for fashion retail empire Arcadia but angling was never far from his mind.

The lure of fishing and a passion for the competitive element of the sport eventually triumphed and the decision was taken to move into fishing as a career, and during the early 2000s Martin worked for several high profile retailers, developing his knowledge of both angling and the industry surrounding it.

With that extensive knowledge, Martin began a career out on the road as territory sales manager for Leeda and it was during this period that he embarked on a return to competitive fishing at the highest level. Competing in both UK and European arenas, Martin went on to win matches on the open circuit and, once again, became part of a National Championship side with Starlets AC.

Martin’s love of team fishing and his ‘work ethic’ makes him a positive force within the ATA ranks. Whether it be in business or on the bank, Martin’s passion and knowledge gives both board and Association unique insights into aspects of industry growth that both he and the association take very seriously.

In 2005 Martin joined Daiwa Sports UK spending 11 years as an account manager during which time he looked after many of the UK’s biggest fishing retailers. With his strong business skills and angling retail experience, Martin has built up an incredibly strong backdrop of business relationships across both UK domestic and wider European markets.

His passion for the trade and sport comes across as a natural ability but this has been hard earned and Martin continues to work incredibly hard at building his knowledge about all aspects of the industry. This energy will be invaluable to both Daiwa and ATA as we seek to build angling participation and market growth for the future.
