Ifor Jones has been managing fly fishing reservoirs in The Midlands for 40 years and, as you might imagine, during that time he has amassed a formidable knowledge of game fisheries.
Ifor currently manages fly fishing at three Midland reservoirs including Draycote Water, Eyebrook and Thornton reservoirs, each with its own retail outlet on site specialising in fly fishing tackle.
In addition to hosting or running competitions, Ifor operates a busy fly fishing tuition and guiding programme for anyone from budding beginners and those needing to progress their fly casting ability to the next level even to the extent of guiding fly fishing trips abroad.
Ifor has been involved in several angling organisations including the Stillwater Trout Fisheries Association, of which he was chair, supporting fishing for trout with the fly and bait on both English and Welsh stillwaters and is regularly involved in work to promote young fly anglers through the international ranks.
As ATA looks to strengthen its knowledge base in all sectors, we welcome Ifor onto the board and as an ATA member. Along with other members, Ifor will be central in ATA’s future plans for game angling growth across the country.
As well as generally increasing the number and variety of fisheries and angling methods open to anglers, the game sector has shown it has much to offer in terms of engagement with specific socio-economic groups that vary from coarse and saltwater sectors giving ATA the ability to broaden its impact on industry growth.
