The Let’s Fish regional and national angling celebrations look set to break records this year as more youngsters get involved in the sport during a string of events organised by the Canal & River Trust.
The regional celebrations are taking shape nicely and the Newton le Willows record attendance of 46 will be broken at the Daiwa sponsored Ellesmere Port event while the national celebration later this year is on track to hit the 450-angler target.
Celebrations are held from May through to the end of August 2025 with the added opportunity for winning regional teams to qualify for the Daiwa Let’s Fish team final, to be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2026 at Blythe Waters.
This is a chance for youngsters to put their fishing skills learnt through the CRT’s Let’s Fish programme to the test in a relaxed setting with fellow angling beginners from your local community.
After three or four introductory sessions, youngsters will be ready to take the next step at one of the 30 Regional Community Celebration events.
There are three age categories, based on age at the start of the year – Cadets (6 to 10 years), Juniors (11 to 15) and Youth (16 to 20).
Points are up for grabs at every Daiwa Let’s Fish regional celebration event, with the top six scores counting towards an overall points total in the Daiwa Let’s Fish Individual National League.
For 2025, seven regions listed have been established with a minimum of three heats in each region. They cover East Midlands, North-West, South East & Anglia, South West, Staffordshire & Shropshire, West Midlands
And Yorkshire & North East
The aggregate winning team on points in each age category will qualify for the final next April and any club, academy, school or other group can enter one or more regional league providing they have three available participants for each round.
Following on from the Regional Celebrations, there is the largest fishing participation event for young people in the UK – the National Celebration of Young People and Fishing – with around 450 other participants, being held over two days on September 13th and 14th.
