The Spring 2026 edition of Take A Friend Fishing – organised by the Angling trades association – encouraged another 230 angler days in England and Wales as anglers took a pal on the bank with them!

The campaign, which ran during the Easter holidays from Good Friday, April 3rd to April 19th, eclipsed the previous edition over Christmas, despite mixed weather.
Existing fishing licence holders could register for a FREE one-day fishing licence from the Environment Agency at www.takeafriendfishing.co.uk to take someone they know fishing.

The Spring break and Easter holiday provided the perfect excuse for anglers to unwind, be with friends and interact with the environment. Taking a friend or family member on a fishing trip is a great way to spend time outdoors. Escaping modern life to build friendships, create lasting memories and just enjoy some time next to the water, is the ultimate in relaxation.

Take a Friend Fishing is an initiative run by Angling Trades Association and its members in association with the Environment Agency and supported by DEFRA, Angling Trust, Canal & River Trust and many angling and other organisations with a vested interest in angling, recreation, the environment and wellbeing.

ATA chairman Andrew Race said: “History tells us the most popular form of recreational recruitment is via a family member, friend of work colleague involved in that pastime.

“TAFF utilises existing anglers, the most passionate recruiting group, to convey the benefits of angling. That firsthand knowledge and passion is the key to its success.”

As usual, a number of tackle shops, fisheries and clubs pledged their support through discounted tackle and ticket offers for the duration of TAFF Spring 2026.
