Fresh from the recent Daiwa-backed Let’s Fish team final at Blythe Waters near Solihull, the Canal & River Trust team have announced 34 events over the coming months as part of their popular fishing initiative.

With the emphasis on fun and skills development, Let’s Fish regional celebrations are held from May through to early September 2026 with the added opportunity for the teams’ winners of the eight regional leagues in the three age categories to qualify for the Daiwa sponsored Let’s Fish team final, to be held on Saturday, April 17 2027.

This year’s event saw the team of Leo Sherwood-Ince, Blair Ingram and Robert McGarragh from Northampton Nene Angling Club take first spot. Having tied on 13 points with West Yorkshire AA Blue’s Samuel Riley, Emily Rossington, James White, the Northampton club pipped their rivals by just 400g, weighing in 2,450g.

The Port Sunlight Orange team of Evelyn Newman, Isabelle Wilson, Florence Bate came in third.

Individual winners were Evelyn Newman (Cadets), Henry McGarragh (Juniors) and Jodie Deacon (Youth).

These events give youngsters the chance to put your fishing skills learnt through the Let’s Fish programme to the test in a relaxed setting with fellow angling beginners from your local community.

After enrolling on a course, youngsters will be taught the basics of fishing at their own pace and can work towards earning a range of awards certificates.

After perhaps three or four sessions, they will be ready to take the next step, joining one of the 34 Let’s Fish Regional Community Celebration events, being held as an introduction to fishing opportunity alongside others in a fun environment.

All cost £6 to attend, plus an Eventbrite booking fee, with every participant receiving a £5 Angling Direct voucher at the end of each event.

Points are up for grabs at every Daiwa Let’s Fish regional celebration event, with the top six individual’s scores counting towards an overall total in the National League.

The overall national winner in each of the three age categories – cadet, junior and youth – will receive a £200 voucher courtesy of sponsors Daiwa, with the runner up receiving £150 the 3rd place finisher £100 on the 4th place finisher £50.

The top 12 cadets and juniors and top four youth will also receive trophies, presented on stage at the Let’s Fish National Celebration of Young People and Fishing.

This is the largest fishing participation event for young people in the UK with around 500 participants and a similar format to the other celebration events, but with the opportunity for all to win fishing tackle prizes, vouchers, certificates, trophies, medals and, if you are really skilful, an iconic Guru gudgeon mug.

This year’s event will be held over two days on September 12th and 13th.
