The first Castaway fishing and support event of 2023 has been scheduled and men who have experienced prostrate cancer are being invited to take part.

Led by world renowned fly fisherman and Game Fair favourite Charles Jardine and delivered by the Fishing for Schools coaches, the event will take place at the Sportfish Game Fishing Centre at Theale near Reading on Sunday, June 11th.

The first event of the year is open to men who have experienced prostate cancer and will offer an introduction to fishing and the wellbeing benefits of the countryside, in a fun and supportive environment. Participants will be able to share experiences and make friends. This is a free event, with equipment provided and those taking part will have the opportunity to try all facets of fishing on the day.

Castaway is a programme from The Countryside Alliance Foundation which supports men and women affected by all types of cancer, to improve their physical and mental health through ongoing engagement with fishing and the countryside.

Applications opened yesterday (Wednesday, March 29th) and will close on Wednesday, May 23rd, after which successful applicants will be contacted. If you, or someone you know, may be interested in applying for a place on this special free one-day event, please click here.
