Edinburgh-based publisher Fieldsports Press has announced the acquisition of iconic specialist fishing title Trout & Salmon from Bauer Media Group.

The existing editorial team will be transferring to Fieldsports Press with Dominic Holtam continuing to lead the business as managing director.

Fieldsports Press’ founder and CEO Simon K. Barr commented: “This much-loved title is a strong addition to our existing portfolio. We can now offer the UK’s most respected and popular fly fishing title to brands keen to connect with a highly engaged audience.”

Fieldsports Press also publishes Fieldsports Journal, Gundog Journal and a string of other shotgun, rifle and airgun shooting titles, the latter of which were acquired from Archant Community Media last summer.

Simon continued: “This acquisition continues our journey of strengthening the British fieldsports media market and puts this heritage title, which was first launched in 1955, in great hands for the future. We will invest in the brand and offer new ways for audiences to connect with the most trusted voice in fly fishing for nearly 70 years.

“As a lifelong obsessive fly angler, I have read this title from the early 1980s. It’s a pinch-yourself-moment to have landed Trout & Salmon and a catch I am exceedingly proud of.”

Bauer Media Group’s special interest managing director – publishing, Steve Prentice, commented: “It’s sad to see Trout & Salmon leave our angling portfolio but we are happy the title and its excellent editorial staff are moving to such a good home. Trout & Salmon has an amazing heritage and it has an incredibly bright future with Fieldsports Press.”

The Trout & Salmon business will transfer on April 28th, with the July issue (on sale June 1st) being the first to be published under the Fieldsports Press masthead.
