Retail giant Angling Direct has posted two key vacancies– a category buyer and planning analyst – covering both the UK and Europe.
The omni-channel retailer, which has 57 stores across the UK and an increasing presence across Europe, says it is further ramping up its expansion plans and the roles will help it continue to grow.
The category buyer will handle all angling sectors including coarse, match, specialist, predator, sea and game in a remote role, with a monthly office presence required.
Job responsibilities will include developing and executing category strategy and planning, aligning with company goals, brand identity and customer insights.
They will need to deliver category sales and margin targets by managing budgets, negotiating supplier terms and identifying opportunities for range expansion, product development and margin improvement.
They will also need to use analytics tools to monitor performance, forecast trends and translate data into actionable merchandising, pricing, and promotional strategies.
Building and managing strategic partnerships with suppliers and driving collaborative joint business plans will also be key to unlocking growth and innovation.
Other core areas will include developing product ranges, working with other AD teams and staying ahead of consumer and market trends.
The successful candidate will have a degree in marketing, business or a related field, at least five years’ experience in a retail buying, category management or FMCG environment, a proven track record of driving commercial performance and delivering sales/margin targets, strong negotiation and communication skills, project management skills, plus proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel). A passion for angling and/or the outdoors is also highly desirable.
On offer is a generous staff discount, competitive benefits plus an annual salary of up to £45,000 based on experience and relevant skills, including car and annual bonus.
Meanwhile, the planning analyst requires someone to monitor and analyse sales, inventory and customer data across multiple levels to identify trends, opportunities, and insights that drive sales and margin growth.
They will support forecasting and demand planning, translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights, prepare regular sales performance, inventory and promotion reports, analyse UK and EU market trends, competitor activity and customer behaviour and use analytics and visualisation tools (Excel, Power BI, Ometria and AI) to create engaging dashboards and reports that support data-led business growth.
Ideally educated to at least A-Level standard, preferably with a degree in business, economics, data science, analytics, marketing or a related field, the successful candidate will bring experience working with retail analytics platforms such as IRI, Nielsen or ERP systems, strong analytical and quantitative skills, with advanced proficiency in Excel and Power BI, experience working with shopper or customer data platforms, excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills and an understanding of retail operations, merchandising and stock management principles.
