Money from freshwater rod licences in England and Wales helped the Environment Agency stock a staggering 400,00 fish into our waterways during 2025, the organisation has revealed.
Funded by fishing licence income, Calverton Fish Farm helps fisheries where there is a need to restore the natural balance following a pollution incident, or to create new fisheries and opportunities for anglers.
The staff at Calverton work very closely with EA Area Fisheries staff to identify which waterways should be targeted for stocking, following a number of strict criteria and adhering to Area stocking plans.
In total, 484,384 roach, rudd, dace, chub, crucian carp, barbel, grayling, bream and tench, from several different year classes, were stocked out in 2025 across rivers and stillwaters in England, thanks to the money generated from rod licence income across England and Wales.
