The UK’s largest fishing event for young people, the National Celebration of Young People & Fishing event takes place every September and places are filling fast.
But there’s still plenty of time to get youngsters you know enrolled on this year’s event, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th on the Shropshire Union Canal.
Backed by tackle brand Guru and organised by the Canal & River Trust, the aim of the annual event is to ensure participants have a fun day, improve their skills and confidence, meet new friends and, hopefully, land some fish.
There are prizes in a range of age groups and categories but everyone who takes part receives a celebration medal or trophy, a Tackle Guru goody bag and special collectible event certificate. Anyone skilful enough to land a gudgeon, will be awarded a special 2025 edition Guru gudgeon mug.
The CRT’s Let’s Fish! Scheme is there to help youngsters aged from six to 20 to get involved.
Age categories are:
Cadets (aged 6 to 10 years, as at 01/01/2025)
Young juniors (aged 11 and 12, as at 01/01/2025)
Full juniors (aged 13 to 15, as at 01/01/2025)
Full youth (aged 16 to 20, as at 01/01/2025)
Emerging youth (this category is designed for the new anglers aged 16-20 who have limited or no experience with events of this type, or those aged 11-15 who are unable to attend on the Sunday.
