The Institute of Fisheries Management has unveiled details of two bursary awards for students, worth £500 each, in memory of long-time member and one-time chairman and president Peter Spillet.
The award will assist two students from either IFM or its partners, the Fisheries Society of the British Isles (FSBI), to attend courses, workshops or conferences, to aid their personal development.
Peter Spillett (pictured below), a member and avid supporter of IFM, who did much to help advance sustainable fisheries management, passed away in January 2022 but the organisation wanted to remember his work.
The two “travelling bursary” awards per year are worth up to £500 each, to contribute to entry, travel and accommodation for attendance at any relevant fisheries or aquatic conference, workshop or training events.
Applicants should write to the IFM at phoebe.worley@ifm.org.uk to outline:
- Their career and learning history to date.
- How this award will help them in their learning and career.
- Why they have chosen that event.
- How they will impart that learning to others.
- The name and organisation of a sponsor.
Deadline for applications is February 27th and winners will be announced through the IFM’s FISH Magazine, newsletter and social media.
The winner will be expected to give a brief presentation or poster (for example at an IFM conference), or create a five-minute video, and/or produce an article for FISH, to share their experiences of the award, with the aim of sharing the knowledge and experience gained and promoting the benefits of the award.
