Draycote Water has begun welcoming anglers back.

Fishing has begun once again at one of the country’s most famous trout waters – Draycote Reservoir in Warwickshire – following a deal between Severt Trent and new operator Anglian Water Parks.

The venue reopened on Thursday, May 1st following a series of stockings throughout April and sport was brisk on the first few days, despite warm weather at the start, including a surprise double-figure pike on opening day.

Draycote Water had been closed early last year following the passing of Ifor Jones, and the subsequent voluntary liquidation of his company, Fishery Management UK.

A statement from Anglian Water Parks, which will operate the fishing at Draycote Reservoir after securing the lease, said: “We are excited to be working closely with Seven Trent to bring this fantastic fishery back to the forefront of reservoir fly fishing. Seven Trent have invested in a pontoon upgrade and have confirmed that car parking will be included as part of an angler’s permit.”

Draycote is a hugely popular stillwater destination for fly anglers and has a good reputation for top-of-the-water, sub-surface and buzzer sport.

Boats and permits can be booked via www.anglianwaterparks.co.uk however it is understood that no deal yet has been completed to reopen Eyebrook and Thornton Reservoirs.
