This year has seen a full programme of junior events held on the canals network by Canal & River Trust and with the Daiwa sponsored Global Communities celebration on the October 19th fast approaching, there is just time to look at a great year of junior angling.
This year’s National Celebration of Young People and Fishing had an impressive turnout with a record 356 youngsters tackling up on the Shropshire canal. A significant achievement, which we are reliably informed was the second largest angling event in the UK surpassed only by the senior Division One national.
The National Celebration covers a range of age groups Cadets, Young juniors, Full Juniors and Youth and sees entrants of all abilities compete for prizes including the coveted Gudgeon Mugs (pictured), in a great festival of angling which is gaining popularity year on year
The event is now so popular that a priority booking system is in place for 2025 for junior anglers to register interest well in advance with organisers targeting an impressive 450 attendees. The 2025 National Celebration of Young People and Fishing will be held on Saturday, September 13th 2025 for Cadets and Youth and Sunday, September 14th 2025 for Young Juniors 11 to 12 years, with Full Juniors 13 to 15 years on the day of the event.
If you know of any clubs with junior sections or individual budding young anglers who would like to register for the National Celebration event, they can do so via this early bird registration link.
This year’s Daiwa sponsored Global Communities fishing celebration on October 19th takes place on the Shropshire Union canal and is part of the CRT annual Let’s Fish programme.
The event will see around 240 young anglers from the home nations communities, with ancestral connections from all over the world, representing their communities with more than thirty countries represented in previous years. As with the National Celebration, the Global Communities event features young anglers and youth from four age groups ranging from seven to 20 years old. More details of the Global Communities event can be found here.
