The trade is being urged to support this year’s Sea Angling Classic as it is being run to raise funds for an Angling Trades Association -backed community boat project – FreeSpirit.

The Sea Angling Classic 2025, taking place in Portsmouth from June 19th to 22nd, will be a charity fundraising event, with all proceeds going directly to support FreeSpirit of the Sea CIC, a not-for-profit Community Interest entity endorsed by the ATA.

FreeSpirit is committed to transforming lives through the therapeutic power of the marine environment. A core part of its mission is to get more people out on the water fishing reconnecting individuals with nature through accessible and purposeful angling activities.

These programmes are designed not only to promote relaxation and focus, but also to serve as a powerful tool for emotional healing, social inclusion, and personal empowerment.

The organisers – Angling Spirit – are asking organisations to donate prizes for the event’s fundraising efforts. This could be in the form of angling equipment, branded gear, experience days, or any item that might help attract interest and raise vital funds for FreeSpirit’s work with disadvantaged children, military veterans, those living with chronic illnesses and coastal communities in need.

Angling Spirit managing director and ATA board member Ross Honey explained: “Your generous contribution would not only support a truly impactful cause but also demonstrate your brand’s commitment to inclusivity, wellbeing and the future of angling. All contributors will be acknowledged in event promotions and materials.

“If you’re able to help or would like to discuss ideas, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Thank you in advance for considering this request and for being part of a wider movement using angling to change lives for the better.”
