The inaugural International Technology In Fisheries Symposium – bringing together a string of industry experts and users – is set to take place next month in Liverpool.

The event at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, beginning on April 14th, will welcome leading experts, practitioners, technical specialists and policymakers to examine how emerging technologies are transforming the monitoring, management and protection of aquatic resources.

Across a series of focused sessions – backed by the Institute of Fisheries Management – the programme will highlight the latest tools, research advances and collaborative approaches shaping the future of fisheries science and management.

Content will span both marine and freshwater environments, with particular emphasis on the practical application of blue and green technologies across the sector.

The symposium places strong emphasis on interdisciplinary working, bringing together biologists, engineers, ecologists, data scientists and field practitioners to share experience, challenge thinking and drive innovation.

Over three days, delegates will take part in presentations, poster sessions and panel discussions, alongside dedicated networking opportunities, including a symposium dinner.

A small trade exhibition will also run throughout the event, showcasing industry-specific companies and services.

This event provides a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, partnership building and discussion to support sustainable fisheries and the responsible management of aquatic ecosystem.

Sessions will cover:

  • AI and machine learning in fisheries monitoring and research
  • Innovation in fish protection
  • Technology and recreational fisheries
  • Conservation, biodiversity and species enhancement
  • Evolution in eDNA application
  • Improving fish passage with new technologies
  • The future of fisheries science

The symposium will be opened by Jeffrey Thutan of the Tallin University of Technology in Estonia who will present the Peter Spillett Lecture titled: From Fish Technologies to an Environmental Intelligence.

There will also be in ice-breaker event on the Monday evening, plus a networking event and dinner on the following evenings.
